When you plug in your laptop, you usually find yourself greeted with a cheerful chirp from your PC, a new glowing LED indicator light, and a display that perks up and beams a bit more brightly. At least that's what it's supposed to do. Sometimes, though, what happens instead is that you connect the AC adapterusually because the battery is nearly drainedand you get nothing. Corrupted power-management software can prevent the proper operation of your battery, including charging. Try finding the proper device drivers under your system's device manager tool and uninstalling, then reinstalling them. Alternately, uninstalling the drivers and then performing a "hardware scan" may identify the battery and install the proper drivers for it, correcting the charging issue. Replace the Battery If other troubleshooting methods do not repair the problem, you could simply have a faulty or dead battery. Contact your laptop's manufacturer for a replacement, or research third-party batteries, which are usually cheaper and work just as well. Until you find a replacement, use the laptop with the AC adapter. Seek a Technician's Help If all else fails and you simply cannot find the problem, a trip to a laptop repair technician is in order. There may be a faulty connection or malfunctioning part inside the computer that is preventing the battery from charging, which is hardly a do-it-yourself fix-it job. Laptop keeps hibernating when the lid is closed? I've been using a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5944 for over a year now and have had no problems except when I close my lid. When I close my lid, it goes to sleep like its supposed to. However, when the lid is closed for long periods of time and disconnected from the power cord, and I turn it on again, it wakes up from hibernation. Battery drain isn't an issue, because the battery level is about the same as it was a couple hours ago. My Windows 7 settings tell it to sleep when the lid closes but what's the problem?
